extracorporeal magnetic transduction therapy

At The Denq Clinic, our philosophy is rooted in a fundamental belief: we don’t just treat symptoms; we optimize human longevity and performance. To achieve this, we invest in cutting-edge technologies that redefine recovery, offering potential solutions where traditional sports medicine might encounter a ceiling.

We are proud to feature the Storz MAGNETOLITH® Ultra+, the gold standard in Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) and an FDA-cleared (510(k)) device. Far more than a simple recovery aid, this high-performance clinical device utilizes focused magnetic energy to reach tissues previously difficult to access non-invasively.

Clinical Applications & Indications

EMTT is specifically designed to address a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal issues by influencing tissue at the cellular level. We utilize it for:

  • Degenerative Joint Conditions: Managing discomfort and improving mobility in cases of osteoarthritis (specifically the knee, hip, and shoulder) and wear-and-tear of the spinal joints (spondylarthrosis, degenerative joint disease).

  • Persistent Tendinopathies: Supporting the recovery of stubborn tendon issues such as Achilles tendinopathy, rotator cuff injuries, tennis/golfer’s elbow, and plantar fasciitis.

  • Bone Health & Stress Injuries: Accelerating the healing of stress fractures, non-union fractures, and bone marrow edema (painful bone bruising) by stimulating bone-mineralizing cells.

  • Chronic Pain Management: Providing relief for non-specific lower back pain, sciatica, and tension-related discomfort.

  • Acute Sports Injuries: Reducing deep-seated swelling (edema) and inflammation in the immediate aftermath of muscle strains or ligament sprains to get you back to training faster.

Understanding the “Transduction Difference”

If you appreciate the data behind your treatments, it’s essential to distinguish EMTT from the standard Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) devices often available for home use. The MAGNETOLITH® Ultra+ offers significantly higher capabilities.

1. Power and Precision: The Ultra+ Capability

While standard PEMF devices typically operate at low frequencies (under 100 Hz) and lower field strengths, the Ultra+ delivers a magnetic field strength of up to 80 mT (millitesla) with an oscillation frequency of 100 – 300 kHz.

This difference generates what clinicians call high effective transduction power. At this intensity, the magnetic field doesn’t just interact with the muscle; it induces a faint electrical current within the deep tissue, a process thought to influence cellular function (sometimes referred to as electroporation).

2. Supporting Bone Repair and Edema Reduction

The Ultra+ is thought to target biological pathways involved in bone mineralization. Research suggests that EMTT may enhance calcium influx into cells, a critical step in repairing a fracture. This is why we often consider it for athletes managing stress fractures or complex bone bruises.

3. Metabolic Activation via Cellular Balance

Every cell in your body maintains an electrical potential across its membrane, essentially its battery charge. Injury or stress can disrupt this charge, potentially contributing to discomfort. EMTT utilizes its specific pulses with the goal of reactivating the cell’s natural balancing mechanisms, such as the sodium-potassium pump, to help restore electrical equilibrium.

Is EMTT Right for You?

Because the MAGNETOLITH® Ultra+ is a powerful medical-grade device, there are important safety considerations. We always conduct a thorough screening before use.

Contraindications:

  • Electronic Implants: Non-MRI compatible pacemakers, defibrillators, stimulators, or insulin pumps (magnetic fields can cause interference).

  • Pregnancy: Safety has not been established, and we do not recommend this treatment during pregnancy.

  • Direct Metal Implants: While many modern titanium implants are safe, we generally avoid treatment directly over non-MRI-compatible metal or shrapnel.

  • Sensory Concerns: This device is not suitable for patients with cochlear implants.

Clinical Tip: At your visit, we recommend removing all wearable technology (eg. smartwatches, smart rings), clothing with metal embedded in them, and storing credit cards securely during treatment, as the Ultra+ generates a field capable of affecting magnetic strips or components.

Clinical Evidence: The Science of EMTT

The following peer-reviewed studies provide the foundation for using the MAGNETOLITH® Ultra+ in high-performance sports medicine. We’ve categorized these by clinical application to make the data more accessible.

1. Bone Healing & Genetic Regeneration

EMTT doesn’t just “soothe” tissue; it communicates with the genes responsible for structural repair.

  • Study: Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy as a New Form of Electromagnetic Wave Therapy: From Gene Upregulation to Accelerated Matrix Mineralization in Bone Healing.

  • Source: Gerdesmeyer L, et al. (2024) | PMID: 39457582

  • Key Takeaway: This study highlights how EMTT targets the RUNX2 gene, effectively “switching on” the body’s ability to mineralize bone and repair fractures or bone bruises at a cellular level.

2. Chronic Pain & Musculoskeletal Management

These studies suggest that EMTT is a potent tool for long-term pain resolution, particularly in the spine and general musculoskeletal system.

  • Study: Extracorporeal magnetotransduction therapy (EMTT) for management of musculoskeletal disorders: A double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomised trial.

  • Source: Hollander K, et al. (2026) | DOI: 10.1177/10538127251400083

  • Key Takeaway: High-level evidence (Level 1 RCT) showing that EMTT significantly outperforms placebos in managing a wide range of MSK disorders, proving its clinical efficacy.

  • Study: Electromagnetic transduction therapy in non-specific low back pain: A prospective randomised controlled trial.

  • Source: Krath A, et al. (2017) | PMID: 28736490

  • Key Takeaway: Demonstrates a significant reduction in pain intensity and functional improvement for patients suffering from chronic lower back pain.

3. Tendon Health & Anti-Aging for Cells

New research is showing that EMTT has “senolytic-like” effects, meaning it helps clear out “zombie cells” (aged cells that cause inflammation) and replaces them with healthy, regenerative tissue.

  • Study: Electromagnetic Transduction Therapy (EMTT) Enhances Tenocyte Regenerative Potential: Evidence for Senolytic-like Effects and Matrix Remodeling.

  • Source: Mancini M, et al. (2025) | DOI: 10.3390/ijms26157122

  • Key Takeaway: This cutting-edge research shows that EMTT helps rejuvenate tendons by improving the regenerative potential of tenocytes (tendon cells) and remodeling the surrounding tissue matrix.

  • Study: Electromagnetic transduction therapy and shockwave therapy in 86 patients with rotator cuff tendinopathy: A prospective randomized controlled trial.

  • Source: Klüter T, et al. (2018) | PMID: 30183430

  • Key Takeaway: Confirms that combining EMTT with Shockwave therapy leads to superior results for shoulder injuries compared to using Shockwave alone.
